The electronics industry is fairly small in South Africa and, as such, stories rarely come from the country or the African continent.

However, the country’s first National Electronics Week took place in Johannesburg earlier this month. Given the size of the industry, the turnout of 1,700 is a strong one.

According to the organisers, South African companies were in force however a truly international turnout was also visible. A diverse spread of technologies – embedded devices to solar / green design to photonics to wireless ICs – were on show and feedback is apparently positive. Indeed, organisers have already hinted at a 2011 show.
