Our sixth analysis of social media practices and activities within the semiconductor industry is now available. We have come a long way since the first report back in 2013.
For example, over the years since our first report, Twitter has increased its user base by a third, Facebook nearly increased by 2.5X, and LinkedIn more than doubled.
The 40 semiconductor companies surveyed now have over 66 million followers amongst the five social media channels analyzed in this report – a 4% increase from 2018’s report.

Facebook still dominates the audience figures covering nearly 74% of all followers, (up from 72.9% in 2018).
Semiconductor companies are taking social media seriously and either employ dedicated social media personnel, or at the very least, marcoms staff list social media as one of their key skills.
Engineers are faced with more noise in the social media space, more technologies to keep abreast of, and less time to do their work. “Bite size” content seems to be the key to engagement, which in essence means keeping the story short and succinct. However, if you have a good story to tell, you can and should create longer posts.
If you’re in the semiconductor industry, the report is a must-read.
