News of an acquisition has just filtered through to Publitek Media News. RBI’s Asian division, which publishes EDN Asia and recently suspended ECN Asia has been sold to the Ten Alps publishing group.
The acquisition enables Ten Alps to move into Asia, with the subsidiary, Ten Alps Communications Asia (TACA), being created in the process. TACA will be based in Singapore and the former RBI Asia executive Raymond Wong will run the business.
Ten Alps is Bob Geldof’s media division and, according to the Ten Alps press release, “With effect from 1 February 2010, TACA will purchase ten titles from RBI Asia including websites, events and publications”
A source at Ten Alps has let Publitek Media News know the acquisition includes “all properties in the MFG & TEG groups in Singapore and TWC in China.” A full list of RBI Asia titles can be found on the RBI Asia site.
Speaking to the Sunday Telegraph, Bob Geldof said the company is seeking to, “become more fully engaged in real-time reporting, being part of the massively fast-moving multiplatform media economy, which is engulfing everything from how you watch TV, to how a business promotes itself to customers. I am captivated by the possibilities of the web, like everyone else, and by investing in and migrating all our traditional expertise in print and TV production into the possibilities of this technology. We’ve barely started.”
