Following hot on the heels of an announcement last month that US based publisher Penwell Corporation had acquired a majority stake in Revo Media Partners – the publisher of UK lighting magazines Lux and Lux Review – the ticker tape now reads: ‘Revo buys Lighting Magazine and the Lighting Design Awards from EMAP’.

Lighting Magazine and the Lighting Design Awards (held each spring in London) will significantly expand Revo’s presence in the design and architectural lighting segments. Revo already owns LuxLive, the UK’s largest dedicated lighting event held annually and taking place next week (November 19-20, 2014) at the ExCeL in London.

Lighting magazine has played a pivotal role in publicising developments in the lighting world led editorially by Ben Cronin in recent times. Ben now leaves the magazine to join the Civil Engineer magazine team at EMAP.

As it happens, Revo Media Publisher Ray Molony served for more than a decade as EMAP’s editor of Lighting Magazine. Molony and Revo’s co-founder Gordon Routledge have sold 51% of Revo Media to Penwell and will continue to play a management role during the integration process.

The Lighting magazine website hints at the prospect of there being a rebrand for the magazine in 2015 with a distinctly Penwell feel to how it will look. Penwell owns LEDs magazine and Illumination in Focus which serves the North American market and hosts local trade events: The LED Show and Strategies In Light. The publisher also recently launched its own awards showcase, the Sapphire Awards.

Currently the Lux magazine website address now redirects to Lux Review magazine which could indicate that more changes are planned. Watch this space…
