In the nearly 30 years that I’ve worked in the electronics PR and marketing communications business, I’ve come across few writers with the combination of expertise, enthusiasm and charm of Jon Titus. I was therefore disappointed to get his message today, and at the same time delighted for him, when he informed me that he plans to retire at the end of this year. He said, “I’ll hang up my editor/writer hat and retire. Jane and I decided while we’re still healthy and mobile we want to take some trips (Scotland first), get involved with more volunteer work, spoil our five grandkids, and resurrect hobbies and activities put off too long.”
Jon has had a long and illustrious career in our industry, for the last 10 years as a contributor to UBM’s Design News and for 8 years, until 2012, contributing to ECN Magazine. You may also remember his dev kit video reviews on the now defunct Dev Monkey site.
From 1984 until 2002, Jon worked for Cahners/Reed Business Information, rising to the position of VP and Editorial Director of Test & Measurement World. He has written, or contributed to, a host of books or other publications and is a dormant radio amateur – one of the hobbies he plans to resurrect.
In his youth, Jon enjoyed impressive academic success. He holds a BS, MSc and PhD in chemistry. That may seem a long way from electronics but when you appreciate that his PhD centred on the use of minicomputers to control instruments and analyze results, you can see how he migrated from one subject to the other.
Enjoy a long, happy, and healthy retirement Jon.
P.S. Hope to hear you on the HF bands!
